yum. marimekko

A pile of beautifully wrapped gifts from the marvellous marimekko is guaranteed to put a smile on any one's face, so pattern booth thought it would give you some marimekko fantasy shopping to ease you into tuesday.

Finnish marimekko knows how to wrap a gift.  The bold black and white dots and stripes, with the splash of carmine red and vivid orange make a strong statement, and you have to love the clever stickers, which use a detail from Maija Isola's classic pattern 'unikko' which was introduced by marimekko in 1964.

You can see the 'unikko' design again on these handy little notebooks (if you read yesterday's post you know I love a notebook!).  In this little notebook set I particularly like the Rasymatto pattern, designed by Maija Louekari, and used here in green.

Gorgeous autumn 'piano' socks designed by Mai Ohta make you glad that the seasons are turning and autumn is on it's way.  Three simple blocks of colour make such a strong impact. And if that thought is making you feel too cosy to work then this pair of Siirtolapuutarha mugs are perfect for a coffee to perk you up.

I also got my hands on a paper copy of the marimekko seasonal paper, full of their new autumn fabric offerings and themed 'off to the woods'.  In palettes of teal and forest green, verdigris and oxford blue these woodland motifs are right on trend for AW-12/13.

You can read the online copy here, and keep your eyes peeled for the abstract Hutera and Klapi fabrics designed by Jenni Rope.  Autumn loveliness.
