Not just any park...The Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

I went to see the brilliant show of Hackney based Yinka Shonibare MBE called FABRIC-ATION.  Yinka applies 'African' Dutch wax fabrics in vibrant colours and patterns to unexpected and sometimes surreal objects, making witty and engaging work which commentates on serious issues such as bigotry and death.

Only on til the end of August, it is well worth an impromptu trip if you can possible fit it in.  If Yinka's great work isn't enough of a draw in itself, then there is also an exhibition from Lucy + Jorge Orta, along with a park stuffed full of glorious sculpture (including plenty from my favourite Barbara Hepworth).

Of course there are beautiful walks and great cafes, but I can't go without mentioning the YSP shop.  You might remember I interviewed Amanda Peach the buyer for the shop a few months ago. It is a glorious collection of books, prints, crafts and homewares, and this time I was excited to see Mint Print lampshades for sale.  Miriam from Mint Print will be on the blog next week to tell us all about her work so stay tuned...

I hope you enjoyed this little trip out. If you've got amazing pattern filled venues or shops near you then do let me know about them.
